Lead generation

How to Generate Leads for a Small Business in South Africa

Lead generation connects a specific customer problem to an offer and a conversation. Start by making the offer and enquiry path clear, then bring relevant people to it and record what happens after they contact you.

Define a lead your business can use

Write down the service required, area served and information needed to qualify an enquiry. A large enquiry count is not useful if most people want something you cannot supply. Decide what makes a lead suitable before judging a website or campaign.

Give one offer a focused page

Explain who the service is for, what is included, how pricing works and what happens next. Include genuine examples or proof you have permission to share. Keep a clear enquiry button near the information that helps the buyer decide. A specific campaign should open a relevant page rather than leave the visitor to search through everything you do.

Choose a source of relevant visitors

Use organic service pages for recurring customer questions, Google Search ads for existing demand, or Facebook and Instagram campaigns for an offer that benefits from demonstration. Referrals and relevant partnerships can also introduce suitable prospects. Begin with channels your team can maintain and measure.

Make contact easy on a phone

Offer a short form, telephone or WhatsApp route that suits your customers. Ask only what you need to begin the conversation. Check that the message reaches the right person and that sending the enquiry is clear; opening WhatsApp alone does not mean the customer sent a message.

Track the handover from enquiry to sale

Keep a simple record of source, service requested, suitability, response and outcome. Assign responsibility for follow-up and communicate realistic response times. Review where people drop out: traffic, enquiry, quotation or sale. Improve that step before buying more traffic.
